Coin Flip With a Twist

“Flip, then ask me which side I was hoping for before revealing it.”

A fair coin for the decision you've been going round on for weeks — and the randomised study behind it, in which people the coin pushed into making a change were happier six months later. The flip is the cheap part; your reaction to it is the answer.

  • Write what heads and tails mean before it lands, not after
  • Exactly fair — one byte of cryptographic randomness, 128 outcomes each way
  • Then the step that matters: relieved, nothing, or stomach dropped
  • Keeps a history, and counts how often your gut overruled the coin
  • Says plainly which half has a study behind it and which half is old advice

How it works

Three steps, then you're done

Say what each side means

Change on one side, staying put on the other.

Flip it

And do not act on it yet.

Notice how you felt

That's the output. You are not obliged to obey a coin.

Nothing you type ever leaves your computer. There is no account, no login and no server. Switch your wi-fi off and it still works — that's not a promise about our policy, it's just how the tool is built.

Questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. Each tool is a single file. Double-click it and it opens in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox — whichever you already have. No account, no password, no software.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Your numbers and files never leave your computer — the tools have no way to send them and no internet connection is needed to run them. You can switch your wi-fi off and they still work.

I'm not good with computers. Is this too hard?

The first thing every tool does is walk you through it in five short screens with pictures. Then there's a button that fills it with example numbers so you can watch it work before touching anything.

Will it work on my phone?

Yes. Email yourself the file and open the attachment, or drop the files in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive and open them from there — then they're on every device you own.
