Emergency Fund Checker

“If my income stopped, how long could I last?”

If the money stopped on Friday, how long would you last? The honest number — split between what you genuinely have to pay and what you'd cut, with a plan for closing the gap.

  • Mark each bill must-pay or could-go and get two figures, not one
  • Handles money still coming in — sick pay, a partner's wage, a lodger
  • A bar against the one, three and six month milestones so you can see where you are
  • Says the jump from nothing to one month matters more than three to six
  • And that where you keep it matters as much as how much there is

How it works

Three steps, then you're done

List what you must pay

Only the things that don't stop when the income does.

Add what you'd fall back on

Savings you could reach this week, and anything still coming in.

See the number

Then pick a target and it works out how to get there.

Nothing you type ever leaves your computer. There is no account, no login and no server. Switch your wi-fi off and it still works — that's not a promise about our policy, it's just how the tool is built.

Questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. Each tool is a single file. Double-click it and it opens in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox — whichever you already have. No account, no password, no software.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Your numbers and files never leave your computer — the tools have no way to send them and no internet connection is needed to run them. You can switch your wi-fi off and they still work.

I'm not good with computers. Is this too hard?

The first thing every tool does is walk you through it in five short screens with pictures. Then there's a button that fills it with example numbers so you can watch it work before touching anything.

Will it work on my phone?

Yes. Email yourself the file and open the attachment, or drop the files in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive and open them from there — then they're on every device you own.
